How a Gupt Singh astonished Bhai Sahib

Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee was a player of high spiritual states. In Jail Chithian we read Bhai Sahib's autobiography and find out that Bhai Sahib had the great fortune of having darshan of Vaheguru jee. Most of the times a Jyot Vigaasi Singh can easily recognize another Jyot Vigaasi Singh because the Akali Jyot that appears in open for them, is visible to both Singhs. But sometimes, some Jyot Vigaasi Singhs of very high spiritual states are able to hide their lofty spiritual state even from other Jyot Vigaasi Singhs. Such an incident occurred in the life of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee and is humbly written below.

Once Bhai Sahib went to a Gurmat samagam at Nabha city of Punjab. Bhai Sahib was visiting along with other Singhs of his jatha and there he met a Gurmukh towards whom Bhai Sahib was pulled unpreventably. After the samagam, they sat together, along with other Singhs, in a separate room. Bhai Sahib has written that this Gurmukh had massive knowledge of Gurmat and on top of it his countenance was an embodiment of humility. He was such who had realized Vaheguru but was adept in hiding his avastha (spiritual state). He was a rare precious jewel who was hiding from the eyes of the world. Bhai Sahib writes in his book Jyot Vigaas that inadvertently and without an effort, by the Kirpa of Vaheguru, he had a meeting with this Gurmukh.

Bhai Sahib further writes that an excellent Satsangat roopi conversation took place between him and that Gurmukh. Immeasurable spiritual profit (laaha) was earned through this Satsangat. As a result of this laaha, Bhai Sahib inadvertently and without thinking, touched that Gurmukh’s charan (feet). As soon as Bhai Sahib touched his charan, Bhai Sahib’s surprise knew no bounds. Bhai Sahib writes that all the hair on his body stood straight. His eyes become stuck and stopped blinking. Bhai Sahib's surthee (concentration) reached very high spiritual realms.

Bhai Sahib was still recovering from this that another incident occurred. Bhai Sahib felt that his feet were not with his body. He could no longer feel them. It seems that this Gurmukh had spiritually placed Bhai Sahib’s charan in his hirda (a place 10 fingers above the navel). When Bhai Sahib recovered a bit, he noticed that the Gurmukh who’s Charan Bhai Sahib had touched, had fallen at his charan and was holding his charan very tight. This Singh spiritually did such thing to Bhai Sahib that Bhai Sahib could not move any part of his body. He went into divine bliss. Bhai Sahib totally lost consciousness of his body. At this Bhai Sahib cried out. The spiritual bliss was unbearable. Then what Bhai Sahib did is presented below in his own words:

Translation: Bhai Sahib cried out and pleaded with the Singh in the name of Guru Sahib. Bhai Sahib said,” in the name of Guru, please have mercy on me. Forgive the sins of this fool.” When the Gurmukh jee heard the name of Guru Sahib being invoked, he released Bhai Sahib’s feet and also pulled back the spiritual shakti that had been applied. Bhai Sahib had darshan of that Gurmukh’s face which was beautiful like lotus flower and his eyes and face was wet with tears of spiritual love. Bhai Sahib feet were drenched with these tears. A mystical spiritual vibration ran through the mind and body of Bhai Sahib.

After Bhai Sahib and that Gurmukh came back to normal avastha, Bhai Sahib asked the Gurmukh how he had reached such high spiritual state. Here is how this conversation is written by Bhai Sahib:

Translation: After getting Saavdhaan (normal avastha), I (Bhai Sahib) asked that Gurmukh, what is the reason or source of such high spiritual state of yours. At this, the Gurmukh becoming an embodiment of humility and said, “it is all because of the boons and blessings that Guru Sahib has given to the writers of Gurbani (Gur Var Likhoniliyaan da). Guru Sahib has blessed me with a very big miraculous spiritual gift i.e. Vaddi Karamaat vaali daat. The spiritual power or shakti that one receives as a result of writing Gurbani is very great.” After hearing these words from the mouth of this Gurmukh, Bhai Sahib gained even more faith in writing Gurbani.

Bhai Sahib has not mentioned the name of this Gurmukh. It would be good if some Gursikh out there knows the details of this story and can post the name of this Gurmukh Pyare mentioned in Bhai Sahib’s book. It teaches us that spiritual states in Gurmat know no bounds. Since Vaheguru is beant i.e. infinite, the Brahmgyaan i.e. the divine spiritual state of knowing him has to be infinite as well. Bhai Sahib himself has written that Baba Buddha jee was the highest Gurmukh he knows of and this is why Guru Sahib too called Baba jee – Sikhi dee Hadd (Baba jee reached the hadd or limit of Sikhi).

This story is very briefly written in the best book of Bhai Sahib (in opinion) yet least read book. This book called Jyot Vigaas is a Maha Kaav (great poem). It was written by Bhai Sahib when he was divinely inspired while he was in British jail serving life sentence. He wrote continuously for 7 days and 7 nights. Many spiritual jewels and precious thoughts are in this book of Bhai Sahib and this daas will try to present extracts from this book in the new future, by the Kirpa of Guru Sahib.
